What is Animal Protection?

Object of Act

Of the obligations of the State Dominican against Animal Protection:

  1. Protection of derechos.   2. - Obligations. The State, through the Ministry of Public Health and Assistance Social, is in the legal obligation to create and promote educational plans and programs aimed at instilling in citizens respect for the Life and derechos of the animals.
  3. Obligations of the town councils. The Town Hall of the District National, the town councils of the municipalities and the municipal district councils, are in the legal obligation to support state plans and programs aimed at the protection of animals and create the bases for the installation of animal care centers within the scope of their territorio.
  4. Obligations of the State against institutions. It is legal obligation of the State lend all the helps y collaboration necessary for recognized animal protection institutions, in order to achieve optimization and objectives in the fulfillment of its purposes and of this law.
  5. Obligation to vaccinate animals. It is legal obligation of the State, through the Ministry of Public Health and Assistance Social, create periodic programs, according to national and international standards, for the vaccination of domestic animals or work, against rabies and other diseases harmful to animals and the man.

Of the Sanctions for the Violation to Act

  1. Sanction for selling animals in unauthorized places. Anyone who sells animals in unauthorized places or who, being authorized, violates the provisions of the Article 39 of this law, will be subject to closure of the place, fine between three (3) and six (6) minimum wages established by the Treasury of the Social security and between one (1) and three (3) months of social services in places intended for the protection and care of animals.
  2. Sanction for sales in public places. All person that violates what is established in the Article 41 of this law, will be punished with a fine between three (3) and six (6) minimum wages established by the Treasury of the Social security and between one (1) and three (3) months of social services in places intended for the protection and care of animals.
  3. Sanction by negligence. But person that violates the provisions of articles 17, 18, 19, 26, 31, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 40, 47 and 59 of this law, will be punished with prison from one (1) to three (3) months and one fine from five (5) to ten (10) minimum wages established by the Treasury of the Social security.
  4. Sanction for abuse. All person who violates the provisions of articles 25, 28, 55 and 60 will be punished with prison between three (3) to six (6) months and fine between ten (10) to twenty (20) minimum wages established by the Treasury of the Social security.
  5. Sanction for cruelty. All person who violates the provisions of articles 30, 32, 46, 50, 53 and 61 will be punished with prison between six (6) months to one (1) year and we will announce y fine from twenty-five (25) to fifty (50) minimum wages established by the Treasury of the Social security.
  6. Recidivism. Recidivism in the violations established in this law will be punished with double the penalty imposed.
